I know a lot of people have been talking
about the Beckham move. The money involved; how
he's passed it, etc. Well this is my take
on the situation.

Basicly Madrid had offered him a deal but it was
mainly for shirt sales then his footballing talent.

The Galactico's have come to an end. Beckham joined
them just too late to win anything big (Not spanish cup) like Macca
did.

So he had 4 choices,

1) Stay and fight a loosing battle for his
place against younger and more up and coming players. Be known just for
shirts!

2) Go to Italy or France (I thought he might do this)

3) Go to an English club (No way)

4) Go to the states (sometime but probably later)

Playing for an unglamorous English club would have hurt Brand Beckham
too much. People forget that in Florida over 50% speak spanish and Real Madrid is a well
known team not Portsmouth or Bolton.

He's made it clear that he only wanted to play for Man U and Real
Madrid , So an Italian club or french club did not appeal.

The reporters and pundits who dislike him, now say he should have come
to England to fight for his English place, but The idea that he would
play for England again makes me laugh.

Remember McClaren dropped him and only if McClaren left would he ever
be 'maybe' selected. He would only leave the England job if England did not qulaify next
year. I think That wont happen. Beckham knows this too and was a factor in
him going to the USA. Even if he had scored a hattrick every game he would not
have been selected and certain reporters would have always found fault.

The American league allows one uncapped salary player in a team
and lets face it anyone would have taken that deal.

I think he knew and was told that If he didn't take this deal now
then in a couple of years the amount would have been a
lot less and he would definatly be seen as 'going
only for the money' as it would ave been the only offer.

This was a once in a lifetime offer and who would say no.
$250 million buys a lot of Stella!

Watford v Liverpool
Liverpool have only won away 3 times in the league all season but they have come in their last 4 away matches. Watford have only won once at home. Dirk Kuyt has 8 goals and 6 MOTM awards. Steven Gerrard is the only player to have started all Liverpool's TFF matches this season. Ashley Young is Watford's leading scorer with a massive 3 goals.
TFF prediction: 1-2

Bolton v Man City
Ricardo Vaz Te is the most used substitute in TFF, Sam Allardyce has called on his services from the bench 14 times this season. He has had only 3 starts though. He has yet to score. Joey Barton has finally found a striker to share his scoring burden at City, Georgios Samaras has now joined him on 5 goals. Manchester City also managed to start with 6 TFF defenders in the FA cup against Sheffield Wednesday.
TFF prediction: 2-0

Charlton v Middlesbrough
Talal El Karkouri is the only Charlton player to have started all their matches and as a result has conceded more goals (43) than any other player in TFF. Darren Bent has scored more goals - 8, than the rest of the team put together and that doesn't look like changing even though he's injured. Andy Reid has somehow managed 5 MOTM awards. Yakubu is 'Boro's top scorer with 9 and is also their only ever-present player. Jonathan Woodgate has 5 MOTM awards.
TFF prediction: 0-0

Chelsea v Wigan
Wigan's midfielders have managed only 1 goal between them compared with 5 from their defenders. Didier Drogba is the highest TFF goal scorer with 13. Frank Lampard now has 10 KC’s.
TFF prediction: 3-1

Man Utd v Aston Villa
Wayne Rooney is joint top of the TFF KC list with 11 whilst Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more goals from midfield with 12. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to score every 1.57 games he's appeared in and 6 of those were as a sub. That is better than anyone with more than 3 appearances this season. Gareth Barry is Villa's top scorer with 8 but Gavin McCann has most MOTM awards with 4. Aston Villa have not won in 12 matches.
TFF prediction: 3-1

Sheffield United v Portsmouth
Sheffield United are now the only team to feature brothers (Alan & Stephen Quinn) in their TFF squad. Rob Hulse is leading goal getter with 8. Portsmouth's Matthew Taylor has more goals than any other defender in the game with 5 and their defence’s total of 10 puts their midfielders to shame, Pedro Mendes' solitary goal being their only contribution.
TFF prediction: 1-1

West Ham v Fulham
West Ham's defenders have not scored in the opposition's net at all this season but have managed 2 own goals. Brian McBride has 7 goals which makes him Fulham's top scorer. Fulham have drawn their last 5 matches.

Blackburn v Arsenal
In-form Benni McCarthy now has 10 goals. None of Blackburn's defenders have found the opposition's net this season. Blackburn are unbeaten since their 6-2 mauling by Arsenal last month. Blackburn won this fixture 1-0 last season. Cesc Fabregas is a KC king with 11 to his name. Robin van Persie averages about a goal every other game and didn't score last time he played so chances are he'll score in this one.

Everton v Reading
Kevin Doyle is head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates with 10 goals (Lita is 2nd with 5 in League and Cup). Johnson has 8 for Everton in league and cup. Last match between the clubs ended 2-0 to Everton. Could be a sticky time for the Royals!!

Defoe is Spurs top scorer in the league with 6. Martins has 7 for the Toon. Newcastle beat Spurs 3-1 last time they played.

Arsenal are on fire, not literally, as that would lead to a hefty insurance claim. They are starting to score for fun however and have conceded only four goals all season. A tough one for Andy Johnson who has now gone two games without a goal.
Prediction: 2-0

Bolton v Man Utd
United are the leading scorers in the Premiership with 19 but Bolton, like Arsenal, have conceded only four. Bolton could find themselves top of the Premiership by Saturday night but if they are, I'll eat a fez (after buying one first). Rooney must score soon.
Prediction: 0-1

Fulham v Wigan
You can believe this next sentence, honest. Heskey is in good form having scored three times and earned two KCs so far this season. Brian McBride has done similarly well but has probably fallen over less times.
Prediction: 1-2

Liverpool v Aston Villa
Incredibly, Liverpool's top scorer in the league is Dirk Kuyt with only two goals. This is because Benitez has taken the rotational system a tad too far now and is beginning to change his line-up every 18 minutes. Villa, despite impressing, hardly have a must-have striker up front either. Their leading goal scorer is Barry with three.
Prediction: Villa's unbeaten run to end, 2-0

Newcastle v Charlton (5.15pm)
By Christmas both of these managers could be missing from their club's annual party. Neither team has won for ages. Newcastle often score first but still don't win so don't get too excited if they take an early lead, even though they won't because this will end goalless.

Portsmouth v Reading
Pompey have kept six clean sheets this season, have a goalkeeper in-form and have the joint top scorer in the Premiership with Kanu hitting six. Reading, having just played the big two of Chelsea and Arsenal, now meet another team doing well and so will lose again. Their honeymoon period is over.
Prediction: 3-0

Sheffield Utd v Chelsea (12.45pm)
Chelsea have scored first in every game they've played so far this season. Given the make-up of their team, you'd expect them to score first, second, third, fourth and fifth in this match. But they won't because they are just a bit dull sometimes. United's best hope is for Warnock to lay one on Mourinho.
Prediction: 1-3

Watford v Tottenham
Tottenham are so hungry for success after a poor start to this season that one of their players actually started eating an opposition player last weekend. At least they have Lennon fit again, and he was back to his MOTM winning ways last week. Watford still haven't won a match and they won't do here either.
Prediction: 1-2

SUNDAY

West Ham v Blackburn (4pm)
I always find the day the clocks go back as one of the most depressing days of the year. All I need to get me by these days though is a good game of football. Shame then that the live match on Sunday is this. West Ham just don't score anymore so Benni McCarthy (above) will be the difference.

MONDAY

Man City v Middlesbrough (8pm)
Despite getting hammered at Wigan last week, City have kept four clean sheets this season although I can't actually remember any of them. Boro are, like butter, on a roll after winning their last two matches and "The Yak" has scored three in the last three matches.

Honeymoon is Over

The honeymoon is now definitely over after last night’s performance.

Forget Robbo, I think he was the best player on the pitch, he certainly kept England in the Game in the first half by making 2 great saves. First Goal maybe he could have done better from a corner he opted to punch away when he could have caught it and it never got cleared.
It kept coming into the box and then when the cross came over he was still going forward - if he were in the right position he would have picked the ball up easily.

The second just disguised the fact we were never going to score against Croatia and got everyone talking about a freak goal instead of the main reason why England played so badly.

Ok 3-5-2 was a waste of time; the boys mainly use 4-4-2 so they are not going to be great at this new formation, however here are a few more points I want to get of my chest

1) why is the fittest player in the England set-up not playing his football in England but in Germany (Hargreaves). Have they better methods than us?

2) We pick players who are not playing in their firstteam so why are they good for the England set-up (Wright-phillips and Richardson)

3) Gary Neville was doing a lot of crossing last night, he does not do this for club so why country.
4) Are you telling me that Beckham would not have delivered more for England last night then some of the midfield?

5) Terry was supposed to make the players more of a team with a strong Captaincy well where was it last night?

6) Rooney's form, how long does it continue without people realising that something has changed with him. I don’t know what, but he is not enjoying football like he use too when he first entered the game. People said pressure never gets to him, well we know now that he is just human after all and only should be called world class when he has done something.

Mike Bosley with 'The winners' (original name) is at number 2 this
week and manager of the week.

Special mention goes to Mike Caverley with his all star liverpool team which got the highest score of 79 points. Having the entire pool defence finally paid off bigtime with ast weeks game too. Finally we are starting to catch up Colin and his Choppers.

This time last year he was bottom of the league, but he's now got of taste
for success and he likes it!

Well done England for winning last nights game. Good performances from the boys and a sensible structure.

However we must remember the standard of the opposition was particularly poor in the first half. These were no Greek gods - but merely an ageing group of players who conquered Europe in 2004 only to see their Fifa world ranking slip to 32nd this week.

Expectations were low after the World Cup, so McClaren was always on to a winner barring any real disaster. No pressure on the players and they seemed to perform better ( No surprise in that)

Next up are Andorra and Macedonia (twice) before McClaren's first proper tests away to Croatia in October and a friendly in Holland in November.

Perhaps then we can cast a more realistic eye over proceedings.

The best thing for me was not any players performance but that McClaren has vowed to take all England matches more seriously when it comes to making substitutions.

Eriksson enjoyed nothing more than trying to keep the Premiership managers happy by making 11 changes at half-time during previous friendlies.

This time, McClaren's only interval switch was to introduce Chris Kirkland in goal. Admittedly, more substitutions followed but that was fair enough with the score at 4-0 and the Premiership kick-off almost upon us.

John Terry proved himself a good Captain he will only be great when he wins something for England.

Season Preview

Last season, Arsenal striker Thierry Henry was the Premier League's top scorer and highest points earner with 274 points respectively. Henry's price of 9.0 may rule him out for some Fantasy Manager's and with Manchester United's Ruud Van Nistelrooy out, many Managers may need to look at the new season's new faces for a bargain. But what about Rooney, he was storming the lead until he got injured.

The highest profile new striker is Ukranian International Andriy Shevchenko, newly arrived at Chelsea from AC Milan via the FIFA World Cup. Shevchenko scored 19 goals in Serie A last season, and 2 in the FIFA World Cup, and will be looking to forge a good reputation in the Premier League.

Chelsea have also bought Salomon Kalou from Dutch side Feyenoord. Kalou scored 15 goals last season. New Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky may not be a striker but he is still capable of scoring a goal or two, as the FIFA World Cup will know. He scored 5 goals for German side Borussia Dortmund last season and 2 goals in the World Cup.

Last season, Darren Bent moved from the Championship to the Barclays Premiership , scoring 18 goals to become the third highest goalscorer of the season. This season's newly promoted sides will hope they can follow his example.

Reading strikers Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson both scored 18 league goals last season. Watford's Marlon King was the Championship's top scorer with 21 goals and costs 4. Sheffield United's top scorer with 11 goals was Neil Shipperley, closely followed by Danny Webber and Steve Kabba on 10 and 9 goals respectively.

Craig Bellamy once again starts a new season at a new club. His transfer from Blackburn to Liverpool could see the Welsh international amongst the Premier League's top scorers. Bellamy was Blackburn's top scorer last season, with 13 goals in 22 starts. They have also lost Paul Dickov to Manchester City. Blackburn have filled the gaps up front with Francis Jeffers who was released by Charlton, and Jason Roberts from Wigan. Roberts managed 8 goals in 34 games last season, compared to 21 goals scored in the previous season in the Championship.

Crystal Palace finally waved goodbye to Andrew Johnson this summer. Johnson, who is Everton's record signing, scored 15 goals in the Championship last season, but will be looking to recreate his form of 2004-05 where he scored 21 Premier League goals.

Blackburn midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen had a good season in front of goal, scoring 9 goals and making 10 assists. Many managers had him in their team, as his points per cost ratio represented a great bargain. However, success means a price increase and for the likes of Gamst Pedersen and Bolton's Kevin Nolan, this means many managers will have to look elsewhere for midfield bargains.

Last season was a good one for Portsmouth's Gary O'Neil, Blackburn's Steven Reid and Newcastle's Charles N'Zogbia. Jimmy Bullard move to Fulham may see him adding to last season's tally of 4 goals and 4 assists.
